Today’s things for which I am thankful

The truth is I rarely open my eyes upon awaking and immediately start listing things for which I’m grateful. Maya Angelou made a great point when she wrote, “This is a wonderful day I have never seen this one before.” Today, I am thankful for:

  • a dog that does not bark or complain
  • a spouse who cares about my well-being (and makes all the money and does all the cooking)
  • no issues adjusting to the cold weather
  • a computer that works
  • steroid injections that allow me to walk without pain

They don’t have to be fancy or profound but if every person made gratitudes a part of each day, the result could only be good, right? Midlife, the pandemic, the cold weather all are things over which we have no control. Yet, we can control our attitude so I am willing to engage in this challenge and hope to make it part of my daily regimen.

Note: An article in the Journal of Happiness suggests gratitude does very little to alleviate actual depression. If you are suffering from depression, please see a professional.
