I am officially over-the-hill, middle-aged, on the back side of 50, half-way to ‘kickin’ the bucket,’ yet staring that mid-life crisis straight in the face and kickin’ it to the curb! After nearly 30 years as an optometrist and 18 years as a wife and step-mother, I’ve struggled with answers to the big questions:
- What to do with the rest of my life?
- What will be my legacy? Do I need a legacy?
- How to burn calories when every joint hurts?
- and many, many more!
‘Living Over The Hill’ isn’t about running out of time or counting down the days until we die but more about celebrating our new identities and beginning new adventures at this stage of life.
Why is this important to me? I watched my grandmother quit trying at 57. My parents retired at 62 and never replaced their careers with new challenges or social organizations. Although they admittedly make devout grandparents, I believe it’s important to enjoy life for ourselves, and not just for the grandkids. If you agree, please join me for a little bit of serious, a little bit of fun and a lot of inspiration.
Stay factive, eat healthy because I’m continuously impressed by these 70 and 80 years old I’m attempting to keep up with down here in Southwest Florida. Besides in this second chapter of our lives, we are wiser and more relaxed, LOL!!

I have found your blog, obviously! Michelle, I’m reading an inspiring book by Betty Friedan, The Fountain of Age–she maintains 60 and beyond are times of great learning and growth. I’m on board with that, all the way,–and I think blogging adds to the possibilities!

I agree. For me, there’s no age limit in blogging as long as one can write, have access to the internet, and knows blogging etiquette. Writing has a therapeutic effect. Go for it!

Congrats on your take on aging! I’m there too. I am never going to retire and plan to keep living life to the fullest. Thanks for another sunny place in the blogosphere.
