This story about the near-centenarian, Thomas Freeman, “The Peddlers Son,” by James H. Ford, Jr. is about a debate coach who taught for six decades. He taught people like Barbara Jordan, Martin Luther King, Jr., and more recently trained Denzel Washington for his role in “The Great Debaters.” Thanks to the Houston Chronicle for publishing stories that inspire in a time of such negativity. We should all strive to become such living legends.
