Leading Lines and the Natural World

The thing I love most about this photography course is how I’ve learned to see the world with an entirely different set of eyes. Take this photo for example. I walk by these two homes, every single day and have never noticed the fact that these trees are angled away from the houses and towards the street.  Purposely trained to grow? or natural?

The other thing that fascinated me, on this day, was the different types of tree bark.  Some looked like chocolate, or mud, carved to look like a tree trunk.  Some looked as if someone had painted them to look like caramel-colored, giraffe spots. None of these characteristics had been observed previously.  There were so many different textures: some in long lines, and some in more of a net-like pattern.  My suspicion is that many of the irregular patterns were caused by drought and disease.  Imagine severely dry skin; on a tree.

A simple exercise such as looking for lines in the natural world, is not only hours of entertainment, but a lesson in appreciation of all life forms.  Not to mention all the neighbors you meet while photographing their plants.

So many beautiful patterns in our natural world.
