BIG

Once, in my childhood, while at a restaurant with my family, a quote on the back of one of those little sugar packets, read “Experience is recognizing a mistake when you make it, again”. I must have known, even at that age, that I was predisposed for making big mistakes, because I never forgot that sugar packet.

If you’re going to make a mistake, go BIG.
I read a book, recently, that discussed the importance of incorporating a percentage of failure into each goal planning session. The explanation was that without any degree of failure, you will never progress. Plan to fail 10-30% of the time. Push the envelope. Stretch beyond your comfort zone. Making mistakes is vital to the advancement of any hobby, profession, etc.

However, we all have those mistakes that we would love to forget; the ones that usually involve removing a foot from your mouth.

Last night, I criticized our marketing team for using an old photo of our group that did not include me.  I lectured on the importance of being current in all our materials, flyers and website.  This morning, I received an email, simply stating, “You are in the photo, right behind …”.

Extracting foot now.
